So here in Clark County, Nevada, our school district has decided that their teachers can completely deny the facts of history in class and keep your teaching job.

Lori Sublette, a Phys Ed teacher at the Northwest Career and Technical Academy, told students in her class that the holocaust in Nazi Germany was exaggerated and that the pictures were fabrications, actually taken in Russia. Why a gym teacher was talking about world history we don’t know. Why a credentialed teacher can deny established historical fact and keep their job? We don’t know.

Now Sublette has been transferred from a premiere tech academy to Johnston Middle School in North Las Vegas. She was sent home with pay until her transfer, and now she continues her career with CCSD. I don’t think this should be allowd to stand. She has the freedom to hold any opinion she wants, but as a teacher, she has a responsibility to students and parents to stay within her expertise in class.

the Clark County School District cannot be let off the hook with a sweep and dump maneuver by simply transferring her around. I contacted CCSD to complain a week ago, and have received no response as yet.

Here is the text of my complaint to CCSD:

“My son attends SWCT, we have been looking at possibly moving and transferring him to NWCT. Your tepid response to Ms. Sublette’s egregious actions is cause for great concern. Simply transferring her to another school is not a firm enough response. Her assertions denying the truth of the Holocaust in Nazi Germany border on lunacy. It is not an area of opinion, it is a historical fact. If you do not end her tenure with the CCSD, then you will force parents and community leaders to bring an even greater national spotlight onto your failure to manage your employees and protect our children who are in your care. Please do the right thing for our children, and let Ms. Sublette go. A transfer only implies your agreement with her positions. I am hoping you can bring yourselves to make the right decision.”

Jerry Doyle

I told my wife and kids I just met Jerry Doyle.

Who?

JERRY DOYLE!! Google him!

He walked the bride down the aisle at a wedding I was officiating on Friday night, and I couldn’t get anyone jazzed about it! Of course, he was wearing flip-flops and a hawaiian shirt but, hey, it’s Jerry Doyle! The bride and groom were Vegas locals, and they were long-time friends. He didn’t know he was in the wedding until he showed up, so he came casual. Quite a picture, the bride in her off-the-shoulder white wedding gown, with her train following behind, and …… Jerry in a Hawaiian shirt. Classic.

The guy that walked in behind him was a real @$#%, he had to be told to take his cigarette out of the WEDDING CHAPEL, because I guess he wasn’t aware you shouldn’t smoke inside the WEDDING CHAPEL. Then he flicks it out the door to smolder on the stoop just in front of the chapel…. you know, where the bride and groom make their grand exit? First class all the way, baby!

This same clod had to be told to sit down during the ceremony when he starts roaming around with his hand-held camcorder to get all the best angles on his little Sony handicam and completely screw up the background of the video the chapel shoots for the couple. Why do people with a cam-corder think they are invisible? Anyway…… back to the real story-

When I was in high school, there was a scifi show with Bruce Boxleitner about a space station orbiting Earth where all the alien races we’d met held their inter-galactic government and negotiation center. Jerry Doyle played the part of Head of Security, Michael Garibaldi. He was a supporting character, but swooped in to save the day several times.

But Scifi geekification aside, his real genius has come through his talk radio show, The Jerry Doyle Show. Nationally syndicated, his show is based here in Las Vegas. More often than not, Jerry has called the political and economic scenarios facing our nation before the facts have come to light. His commentary as an independent voice has been refreshing and frankly, needed. Jerry was a political independent before it was en vogue.

NO, I didn’t ask for his autograph or pose for a picture with him, just like I didn’t when Don King came to a wedding I officiated. I try to not impose myself on the guests of our ceremonies, especially if they are well-known, because they get it all the time, and I’m there to do my job for the wedding couple.

Getting to meet him in person was a real treat, but I doubt he’ll remember me, it WAS  a Vegas wedding, and the party had started before they got to the chapel, IF you know what I mean….. But the few minutes I had to speak with him was a memorable conversation. Even if nobody in my family knows who he is, at least I enjoyed it!

September 8, 2009. Our Dear Leader, Barack Hussein Obama, will grace our nation’s schoolchildren with a webcast in his honor. American Students, K-12, will get the privilege of hearing our Historic President tell them to do all the stuff that their parents should be telling them to do.

Why?

And why the co-ordinated teacher’s notes to help open the kid’s hearts and minds to the President? Why the Presidential emphasis? Didn’t our Dear Leader say he didn’t have enough time to run GM & Chrysler because he had two wars to run? HOW does he find the time?

My brother-in-law called this morning appalled that there wasn’t any kind of notification to parents before this whole thing hit the media. He has co-workers who have been told (*WARNING: Anecdotal Evidence*) that they could not attend their children’s classes that day. When we went to orientation this year, we were told that parents have the right to audit their children’s classes. Apparently some of our Clark County Schools don’t have equal rights, at least for parents.

When I called my son’s high school, I was transferred from the front desk to the counselor, who had no idea, so she transferred me to the administrator, who said they had only just received the email and she still needed to get with the principal and find out what they were going to do. I then asked if they would be notifying the parents, and she said I could check the online communications site, Parentlink and they would have more information later.

So my score so far: 2 Transfers and 1 Check Back Later. (But don’t call here, just check online, so I don’t have to talk to you!) C’mon, people, less than a week away and parents need answers!

Now, let me just say here that I was treated cordially, and no one gave me the impression that I shouldn’t be asking these questions, but I wish they had an answer less than a week away from the event. Especially since there is only one school day left this week and Monday is Labor Day, so their first day back next week, Tuesday the 8th, will be the Day of Presidential Transmission. Not alot of notice.

I also want to note that just this week, I saw a PSA that Obama did to encourage Dad’s to spend more time with their kids and be more of a dad. I think that’s great, and he said all good things. I even gave him credit for it on my internet-radio show, but it really isn’t what I need from my President. I don’t need him to parent my kids, or to tell me how to parent my kids. I need him to run the military, conduct foreign policy, balance the budget, and then SIT ON HIS HANDS.

My suspicious conservative mind also wonders why he wants the kids on the 8th, followed by a prime-time infomercial for Obamacare on the 9th in front of a joint session of Congress. Is he trying to grease the wheels with the kids before he hits the parents up for more control of their lives? Is it an effort to repair his slipping approval ratings?

I don’t want the President talking directly to my kids without my permission. I don’t want to be kept out of the loop when a political figure wants access to my kids. I am completely in agreement with ex-marine David Hedrick when he told his Congressman: “Stay away from my kids!” Yes, I’m looking at you, Barry……..

I saw this picture and it brought me up short.

Obama Swearing In

It is one of those images that is worth 1000 words. I have always believed and voted Republican, yet I see the progression of government is steadily swallowing up individual freedoms. It doesn’t matter which party is in power, they all find a way to enrich themselves, screw the voters, have affairs, and run the nation as a whole into debt.

I have always projected my respect for Ronald Reagan onto the Republican party, but I find more and more that Republican leadership places themselves far and away above the simplicity that was Reagan’s policies and doctrines. There IS NO major American political party that is willing to stand up for and fight for the things I believe in most.

Faith, Family, the Constitution. All politicians and partisan hacks pay lip-service to what most Americans deem as important, and then once they have power, do what they can to keep it and get rich. We are where we are today as a result of Democrat AND Republican leadership. I don’t like where we are today, and I SURE as hell don’t like where we are going!

So, my family and I are seriously researching the Independent American Party here in Nevada. They seem to have focused more on legislative and legal issues recently rather than fielding candidates, but I like their support for the Constitution above party interests. I also think they have the coolest-looking mascot of any political party I’ve seen:

It doesn’t get any more American than the Buffalo. So, my inclination is one of distrust for both parties. It seems I am in good company. I know people say that the GOP is in a battle for its soul, it is in a moment of crisis, blah, blah, blah. Every 4 years they are in another defining moment, for God’s sake, when will they put a platform together, stick to it, repel attacks on it, and govern accordingly?

What about the plethora of czars that this administration has appointed with radical, extreme, and even COMMUNIST viewpoints? (yes, I’m looking at you, Van Jones) We have an advisor to the President of the United States who has admitted to coming out of prison as a Communist, and has never renounced his ideology. He DID say that he realized he had to ‘change tactics’ but never has he gone on the record repudiating Marxism. How is this OK in America?

Further, WHY won’t the White House respond when asked about the extreme views of these non-vetted, non-congressionally approved ‘advisors’? It is infuriating that a cadre of radicals have access to the seat and power of the government, and the President feels he doesn’t have to clarify for those of us who are concerned and asking questions?

Maybe it’s time to poke both parties with a sharp stick in the eye. Maybe that sharp stick will be one or more independent parties that they have to negotiate with to gain any political influence. I am sick of left and right wings, I am a conservative that wants to enjoy the freedom guaranteed by the Constitution and the principles of our Founding.

Let the poking begin….. let freedom ring!
