The Guardian, a UK-based newspaper and online rag, is in a tizzy. Conservative women are becoming more prevalent and garnering more media attention. Even as the GOP becomes more white and more southern, these ladies (from the West, & Midwest?) are rising stars of the ‘right-wing’ movement. They bemoan the rise of Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, and Michelle Bachmann.
Michelle Bachmann has received a special drubbing by Paul Harris of The Observer in New York and spread abroad by the British tabloid:
“a cursory glance at her(Bachmann’s) career reveals that this rising star has long trafficked in some extreme positions. In October last year Bachmann called some of her fellow congressmen anti-American. She has said Obama holds socialist views. She has attacked global warming by saying that carbon dioxide emissions are a natural part of the atmosphere. “Carbon dioxide is not a harmful gas, it is a harmless gas,” she said. She has fed into fears of a violent backlash against Obama by saying that “having a revolution every now and then is a good thing”. She has spoken of “gangster government” in a speech viewed more than two million times on the internet. She has dubbed Obama’s plans to increase AmeriCorps – a

Scary? c'mon!
government volunteer service group – as a plan to forcibly indoctrinate young people. “I believe there is a very strong chance that we will see young people put into mandatory service… there are provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people,” she told an interviewer. Her language in opposing healthcare reform has been bloodcurdling. At a recent event in Colorado she told her audience: “What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing. This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn’t pass.” She is also extremely socially conservative, strongly opposing abortion and gay marriage, and deeply religious. She has described herself as a “fool for Christ”.”
Where to start? A lot of our current representatives in Congress espouse ideals that are distinctly anti-American and against the Constitution. Recently, one congressman admitted that there was no Constitutional basis for the healthcare legislation. His defense? ‘most’ of what Congress deals with has no basis in the Constitution. nice. So, Bachmann 1 , Harris 0.
She called Obama a socialist? um…… hello? ’spread the wealth around?’; ‘redistributive change?’; ’single-payer healthcare plan?’ Bachmann 2, Harris 0.
She believes Carbon Dioxide is not a harmful greenhouse gas. Wow, this one floors me. Every breath we take, we exhale carbon dioxide, it is a natural part of life. And what happens to it? PLANTS use it for photosynthesis and make OXYGEN!!! You would think the liberals who revere the Circle of Life would pick up on the mutually-beneficial nature of this relationship! Want to save the rainforest? EXPEL MORE CO2!!!! DUH! Bachmann 3, Harris 0.
She has promoted a ‘violent backlash’ by stating: “Having a revolution every now and then is a good thing.” Why does it have to be physical violence? Can’t it be a ‘revolt’ at the ballot box? Aside from that, does Mr. Harris know his history? The Founding Fathers spoke of the need for vigilance, for defense of Liberty FROM governmental tyranny, and don’t even get me started on Jefferson’s quote about watering the Tree of Liberty with the blood of tyrants. Bachmann 4, Harris 0.
Americorps leading to mandatory service? um…. it was Rham Emanuel, Obama’s CHIEF of STAFF, who endorses and promotes forced volunteerism by young people! And with all of the Obama kids school videos coming out, how much of a stretch would would re-education camps be? Look at what the WH is doing with FOX News and the media. Report favorably to us, or we’ll attack you and threaten you. That’s the same as Mr. Harris’ next worry, ‘gangster government.’ Any casual observer of this administration can see the thuggish nature it operates in.
Firing the CEO of GM, the war with FOX, the trashing of GM investors when they wouldn’t bend over and take a loss in favor of the UAW, etc. etc. the list goes on. This is the most pro-actively intimidating administration since Nixon.
Bachmann 6, Harris 0.
‘Bloodcurdling’ language to oppose healthcare? Making a blood oath is something we understood growing up, as a solemn vow. Making a small cut on the hands or the wrist and then pressing hands or wrists together meant that you were indivisible in your cause. (that was before HIV Aids was big) Ever heard of the term, ‘Blood Brothers’? It was an imaginative term she used to express the dedication to opposition to becoming the slave of a government-run healthcare system!
Dude! get a clue, already! Bachmann 7, Harris 0.
“fool for Christ”? This is a common statement in Christianity, stemming from King David’s vow to his wife: ““I was dancing before the LORD, who chose me above your father and his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the LORD. So I am willing to act like a fool in order to show my joy in the LORD. 22 Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this…” 2 Samuel 6:21, 22.
OR, it could be rooted in the Apostle Paul’s assertion: “Instead, God deliberately chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose those who are powerless to shame those who are powerful.” 1 Corinthians 1:27
AND in 1 Corinthians 4:9,10 “ We have become a spectacle to the entire world – to people and angels alike. 10 Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools, but you are so wise! We are weak, but you are so powerful! You are well thought of, but we are laughed at.”
It’s a statement of being willing to take a hit for what you believe in and not waver. It is a mark of true faith. People with little or no faith don’t understand such devotion, and can’t grasp what it is like. So they fear it.
I don’t know where they grow NY journalists, but I think it’s somewhere in France. The ability to have your head so far up your rear and still write for a nationally-recognized paper and even get international reprints is amazing. But…. wait, so is the National Enquirer, so I guess it has precedent.
I’m Just sayin….
